Frequently Asked Questions

Start-Up Street Renfrew is a partnership between Renfrewshire Council and Inspirent Ltd. It is a business incubation centre for new and growing businesses in Renfrewshire.

The centre provides low-cost, high-quality office space, hot desking, and access to a meeting room. Businesses taking office space can also benefit from subsidised rent inclusive of utilities and Wi-Fi, on-site business support, tailored workshops, and support to identify suitable premises when they are ready to move on.

Office space is available on licence agreements for up to two years. Hot desking is available separately and does not include rental subsidy.

For more information, please email grow@inspirent.co.uk

No. Start-Up Street Renfrew is designed to provide as a business’s first commercial premises. Businesses that are already operating from, or have previously operated from, commercial premises are not eligible for a space within the centre.

Hot desking is a separate offer and is not included within this eligibility criteria.

Yes. Hot desking is available separately and is not subject to the same eligibility criteria as office space.

To be eligible for office space Start-Up Street Renfrew, your business must either be a start-up or have been trading for less than 5 years.

Rooms range from £160 to £380 + VAT per month, depending on the size of the room. Prices are inclusive of Wi-Fi and utilities. Eligible businesses taking office space can claim back a percentage of their rent through the rental subsidy grant.

You can find more information about the rent subsidy in the questions below.

Your monthly office rent includes Wi-Fi, utility bills and service fees, access to our meeting room for up to 8hours per month, as well as on-site business advice and support to help you grow your business.

Yes. VAT is charged on top of the monthly room cost.

Example: If a room costs £160+VAT per month, the total monthly amount payable including VAT would be £192.

At Start-Up Street Renfrew, those eligible can benefit from a rental subsidy that helps reduce the cost of their office space over the course of their licence agreement. Licences are offered for a maximum of 2 years, with the subsidy gradually reducing over that period to help businesses settle in and grow.

Rental subsidy levels:

  • 75% subsidy for the first 6 months
  • 50% subsidy for the second 6 months
  • 25% subsidy for the third 6 months
  • Full rent payable for the final 6 months

You pay the full monthly rent amount upfront, including VAT, and the subsidy is then reimbursed to you each month.

Example:If your room costs £160 + VAT per month, your gross monthly rent would be £192. You would pay this amount in full each month, and the rental subsidy would then be reimbursed to you.

  • Months 1–6: £120 reimbursed, effective rent £72
  • Months 7–12: £80 reimbursed, effective rent £112
  • Months 13–18: £40 reimbursed, effective rent £152
  • Months 19–24: no subsidy applies, so the full rent is £192

No. The rental subsidy does not cover VAT. It is calculated on the net room cost only, and you are responsible for paying the VAT element.

Example: If a room costs £160 + VAT, the subsidy is calculated on the £160 only, not on the VAT.
